Over in the Meadow was a Caldecott Honor Book.

Always looking for ways to engage children, John Langstaff used this traditional song to teach young children to count and to encourage the naturalist in them: "Next time you go for a walk in the country, see if you can find some of the animals in this meadow. Walk gently and watch closely...they are sure to be there!" Langstaff advises in the preface.

John Langstaff collaborated with artist Feodor Rojankovsky on this picture book depicting the animal story in charming, colorful illustrations with the tune in musical notation at the back of the book. The song is recorded on Revels CD "Songs for Singing Children."
