Live Zoom Events December 12 - 13, 18 - 20

Unruly Magic — A young Reveler turns to a magical staff to help her find a way through somber and troubled times. The staff, imbued with ancient lore, takes her on an adventure that isn’t quite what she had in mind. Magic and mystery, spirits and song take the reins for this journey of the heart. The ancient traditions of bonfires, rituals, dances, and songs that have sustained generations through struggle and celebration are rekindled this Solstice, proving that tradition—and magic—lives on. Featuring Shay Black and Windborne Singers, a blend of archival footage with newly-filmed pieces create a dynamic and moving feast for the eyes, ears, and spirit.

Tickets available online through December 20

The Christmas Revels 2020: A Virtual Celebration
Available via Video-On-Demand December 18 - 31

Join us for this year's Christmas Revels featuring some of our favorite artists plus a special performance by cellist Yo-Yo Ma!

For the first time in 50 years, the annual Christmas Revels will not be celebrated live in Harvard’s historic Sanders Theatre. The shortest day will come, and the year will die - but as Revels fans across country know, that is never the end of the story! This December, a small band of performers will walk into an empty theater to fulfill the promise of …. “people singing, to keep the year alive,” as stipulated in Susan Cooper’s poem, "The Shortest Day." They will be joined by two stalwart audience members who have been present since the first Christmas Revels in 1971: the marble statues of James Otis (Paula Plum) and Josiah Quincy (Richard Snee). James and Josiah remember every song, every dance, and every “Welcome Yule!” and are quite excited to share their vivid memories with us!

This unique virtual production features performances from our extensive archives alongside lively new offerings from special guest Yo-Yo Ma, guest performers, and over 200 community voices.

A Virtual Celebration of the Winter Solstice
Live Pre-Show Event Monday, December 21
Available via Vimeo On Demand December 21

This year, we will be offering a virtual Revels show that gets back to some classic Revels material: we will be presenting a theatrical performance of English Renaissance and medieval music (filmed in the Marjorie Luke Theater, with audio recorded at a masked, socially distanced outdoor recording session) of a short, hour-long Revels show that will replicate the Revels experience as closely as we can given the current guidelines, which make in-person arts events impossible.

On-Demand Access Available December 23 - January 6

Kindle the spirit of the season and the comfort of “hearth & home” with the Winter Solstice Revels! This year the glow may come from our favorite devices rather than the flaming Yule log, but the warmth will be just as real with traditional Revels singalongs, performances by our virtual choruses of Adults, Teens and Children, the cheerful sound of the Washington Revels Brass, and a stunning rendition of the spiritual My Lord What a Mornin’ by the Washington Revels Jubilee Voices.
