Winter PACS Program
January 27 - March 18
Both of Mufaro’s daughters are beautiful, but one is bad-tempered, and one is kind. When the King of the land asks the daughters to appear before him so he can choose a queen, the prideful, bad-tempered daughter decides to set out in the night so she can get there first. Along the path are many opportunities to show one’s true character. The kind daughter who follows the same path the next day makes different decisions – with different results and a surprising ending!
Author, John Steptoe derived his inspiration from the folktale, Kaffir Folk-lore, published by author G.M. Theal in 1895. Steptoe's illustrations reflect his time in studying an ancient city in Zimbabwe; the images of flowers and trees are exact replicas of the ones that lived during the reign of this unknown ancient city.
Join Revels as we explore a beloved tale that has been a children's staple from every culture of the world. Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters is the Zimbabwean center of our journey during our Winter PACS (Performing Arts Curricular Series) program. Led by an experienced and engaging teaching staff, students will spend seven weeks learning songs, exploring music and cultural instruments, hearing stories, and writing and performing their own play. Students will meet virtually for an hour once a week with a class of their peers beginning January 27, and will end the series with a showcase performance. All classes will take place over Zoom.
