Revels Singers is an unauditioned community chorus open to everyone who loves to sing. The mission is to engage people through singing, to explore choral repertoire from around the world, to hone musical skills, and to build community through harmony. For members so inclined, there are opportunities to perform each season, in which we represent the Revels organization and spread the spirit of celebration for which Revels is known.
About Revels Singers
The chorus is open to anyone who loves to sing Revels choral music, no audition necessary. The Singers rehearse on Wednesday nights from 7 to 9 pm at the Belmont-Watertown UMC (formerly St. John's), 80 Mt. Auburn Street, Watertown. The last 15 minutes are given over to refreshment and socializing.
We sing a broad spectrum of choral music covering five decades of Revels performances. Energetic rehearsals challenge the seasoned choral singer as well as those with less experience. Repertoire includes Renaissance motets, contemporary anthems, American “shape-note” hymns, spirituals, carols, rounds and arrangements of folk songs from around the world. Many pieces are in languages other than English – always a rewarding challenge. We work hard, have a lot of fun, sound great, and come away from each rehearsal feeling uplifted and energized.
The Revels Singers is open to any adult who has ever been in a Revels chorus and to anyone who simply loves singing Revels music! This is a non-auditioned chorus. You will nonetheless be held to high choral standards and expected to learn your music. Teen singers aged 13-17 are also welcome to join the chorus if their parent or legal guardian is also singing.
