Our Board of Directors plays a crucial role in the governance of Revels. we'd like to introduce you to one of the extraordinary people who provide their expertise and support: Ona Ferguson
Current profession/professional interest?
Public policy and environmental mediator - helping people have important discussions productively.
Why does Revels inspire you to serve as a board member?
Like many people, I grew up with Revels as a constant, year in year out. It has consistently given me such joy...that the most ideal job I could think of when people asked me was always "running Revels." I wanted the joy I felt in participating with this organization to be embedded in my daily life. Serving on the board feels like an opportunity to be able to share my energy and enthusiasm with this organization that, somehow, is more than the sum of its parts.
What is a favorite Revels performance experience/memory:
Listening to "The Shortest Day" - the one poem I know by heart - from the stage with my stage family or in the hushed audience with my beloved family, hearing the long echoes deep in my bones.
Baking, cooking and eating with my community, the time bank network,
singing and dancing, being a good wife, sister, daughter, and friend, and broadly being a responsible member of this magnificent planet.
What other organizations or causes do you volunteer with or support?
The LivableStreets Alliance - a local group working to make the Boston area better for people to work and play in by improving biking, transit, walking and driving. On the Rise, which provides all kinds of resources to women who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
If stranded on a desert island, what are 2 recordings and 2 books you would want with you?
Paul Simon's Graceland, The Classics by Satie, Rise Up Singing, and maybe
Pride and Prejudice? This is a painful question to answer though it doesn't preclude the idea of having other books or music as well.
