On Sunday, September 19th, Revels celebrates the approaching Autumnal Equinox with song at the 7th annual Revels RiverSing. Thousands will gather at twilight near the Weeks Footbridge in Cambridge by the Charles River to celebrate the turning of the seasons with familiar, rousing songs for all to sing. (Lyrics will be available for download this summer and will be handed out at the event).

This FREE family celebration includes area chorus members from Halalisa Singers, Greater Boston Intergenerational Chorus, Sharing a New Song, Revels Repertory Company, and the Reading Community Singers, talented soloists, a big chorus of Revels singers (see how you can join), and a fabulous folk band.  In addition there'll be poetry readings by members of the Actors' Shakespeare Project and Cambridge Poet Populist Jean Dany-Joachim.

PRE-SHOW FUN: Gather at 5:00 pm in Harvard Square's Winthrop Park (outside Grendel's Den) where there'll be stilt-walkers, face painting and hoola hoopers courtesy of Moonship Productions.  Then join the 5:45 pm Grand Procession to the Charles, led by the New Orleans-style "honk" band, Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band, singers and circus performers, and hand-made puppets large and small from mask-maker Sara Peattie's acclaimed Puppeteers' Cooperative

Bring a flashlight and a picnic, and don't forget to bring a bell to ring in the new season. Then join thousands of voices in song from 6:00 pm until approximately 7:15 pm by the John W. Weeks Footbridge at Memorial Drive and DeWolfe Street.

As the celebration ends, enjoy the beauty of the sunset and the peace of the river as special musical guest Stan Strickland plays a mystical saxophone coda, floating across the water on an illuminated Sun/Moon boat - truly a magical moment, soulful and visually stunning.

Mark your calendars and join us September 19th for this very special night of celebration and song!

Special thanks to Renata von Tscharner who, as head of the CRC, invited Revels to partner with them for the very first RiverSing in 2004 to help bring attention to the Charles River and its parklands.  The partnership flourished over the years and helped Revels RiverSing grow into the annual tradition it has become.
