River Conservancy present
the 4th annual
RiverSing: Bridging the Charles with Voice and Light
Sunday, September 23, 2007
On the banks of the Charles River
at the Weeks Footbridge.
Near Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA
Procession: 5:45pm, Singing: 6:00-7:30 pm
From atop the Weeks Footbridge linking Allston and Cambridge, and
bathed in light, Revels music director George Emlen (and giant
puppets Oshun and Poseidon) will lead everyone gathered along
the banks of the Charles in river songs and songs of the season.
The 4th annual RiverSing will be a festive affair. Five area choruses will join us on
the bridge this year: Mystic
Chorale, Revels Repertory Company (formerly Circle of Song),
the Halalisa Singers,
Sharing a New Song and
The Greater Boston Intergenerational Chorus,
all accompanied by keyboard, guitar, bass and drums. In addition,
local saxophone greats Stan
Strickland (fresh off his award-winning one-man show)
and Ken Field (of The Revolutionary Snake Ensemble)
playing antiphonally across the Charles along with third sax player Chris O'Brien playing from a launch donated
for the event by Community Boating.
The public is invited to bring a bell to ring in the new season (we'll ring our 40-pound River Bell) and join the many singers,
musicians and friends of the parklands in this exciting fall tradition that links Boston and Cambridge in song!
Picnics are encouraged! Bring a blanket with self-provided goodies or pre-order special RiverSing picnic meals
from one of eight participating Harvard Square restaurants including Harvest and UpStairs on the Square.
You can also meet us at Winthrop Park in Harvard Square for music and fun at 5pm followed by a 5:45pm processional down to
the Charles led by larger-than-life puppets, created by the Puppet Collaborative, and
local jazz legends the New Orleans-style Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band.
Enjoy free organic apples from WholeFoods and sample
Izze Beverages' exotic sparkling fruit sodas.
