A Revels SummersDay

PRESENTED BY arsenalArts and Revels

An indoor/outdoor summer celebration with David Coffin and special guests, including The Nields (3:00 pm show only) and WGBH-FM’s Brian O’Donovan.

Revels is delighted to usher in the summer with a special celebration June 20th featuring folk and world music stars, Celtic music and dance and hot churchy gospel.

Join our host, David Coffin, and watch, listen to and sing with our many guests as we fill the Charles Moseisan Theater with music, song and dance from both around the world and close to home. Then follow us outside for some family fun including spirited Morris dancing, a traditional Maypole and a visit from the ancient and mysterious Padstow ‘obby ‘oss. Read on!

Revels is pleased to welcome for the first time The Nields,  the renowned sister duo of Katryna and Nerissa Nields, whose work spans 20 years of recording and touring. They grew up listening to Revels recordings and attending Revels performances, and cite Revels founder John Langstaff as an early musical influence.

Brian O'Donovan, host of "A Celtic Sojourn" on WGBH radio and a source of all things Celtic, will be on hand, joined by his lovely wife Lindsay O'Donovan on piano.

An ensemble of eight young Irish stepdancers from the O'Shea-Chaplin Academy of Irish Dance will show off their latest routines, accompanied by two up-and-coming young dance musicians from Anadama (Amelia Mason and Bethany Waickman) who will also give us a tune of their own.

A Revels SummersDay showcases the thrilling young singer, 18-year-old John Castillo, a student at the Perkins School for the Blind and a veteran of several Revels productions already, and the rousing Gospel sounds of singer Sayida Rivers and pianist, Donnell Patterson

The fun doesn't stop there! Musicians Hankus Netsky and Linda Chase from the world music ensemble Another Realm will add their own bit of spice to the mix.

Revels Repertory Company, Revels' acclaimed touring ensemble of adults and children, will be on hand to share a few songs and stories from their newest production, Voices from the Mountain.

As master of ceremonies, Revels' own talented singer/instrumentalist/songleader David Coffin, will share a song or two and lead the audience in a few seasonal songs.

The indoor performance concludes with the communal singing of "The Wild Mountain Thyme," before the celebration continues outdoors with Morris dancing, a traditional Maypole and the mysterious Padstow 'Obby 'Oss from Cornwall, England.

Please join us!

A Revels SummersDay is sponsored, in part, by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
